HATIS is the brand name of a line of products designed to interface cellular and remote phones to telecoil equipped hearing aids usually using a silhouette type coupling. HATIS devices are designed to plug directly into the hands-free jack of most cellular or remote phones. Like any hands-free phone interface, it includes a microphone to pick up your voice. But the sound from the phone is coupled to your hearing aid's telecoil (magnetic) interface.
HATIS sells several versions. Most use one or two silhouettes but one is more like a headset that is telecoil compatible.
For the silhouette versions, you need a BTE hearing aid with a good telecoils. If you have two BTE aids with good telecoils, you can get a binaural HATIS that will let you hear the phone in both ears. The headset type may work with some ITE aids and with a few larger canal aids which have telecoils.
